When the trick or treats have been collected, the hangovers have been nursed, and the Halloween stores mark everything 90% off, nothing frustrates me more than being told, “Emily, Christmas is still two months away.” Wrong-O! That’s not how we roll in Reetzville… Why limit Christmas to one day, when you could reasonably dedicate 15% of your year to all that is merry and bright? We Reetzs celebrate Christmas as a gradual build, beginning as soon as the Halloween high is over and ending on December twenty fifth, the big day, the grand finale. Not sure how to stretch your holiday spirit to last a whole 55 days? Here are some timeline tips to help you along. I’m starting a week back so that you can play catch up if needed…
Fri. Nov. 1 – Start listening to Christmas music without shame. Treat yourself to your favorite seasonal beverage!
Sat. Nov. 2- Get inspired. Visit local shops to see some dazzling decorations. Look through photo albums of Christmas past. Do whatever puts some holiday spirit in your step.
Sun. Nov. 3- Put your thinking cap on. Start making your gift giving list while cozying up and watching pseudo-Christmas movies. Enjoy two or more movies per week from now until Christmas. This is NOT optional.
Sat. Nov. 9 or Sun. Nov. 10– Start gift shopping. No stress. You’ve got plenty of time to find the perfect thing for those perfect people in your life.
Fri. Nov. 15- Tonight, you don your classic holiday PJ pants or sport some brand spankin new ones. Seasonal wear is totally appropriate now that Christmas is right around the corner.
Sat. Nov. 16- Pull those boxes down from the attic and deck the halls for Christmas. All but the tree goes up this weekend! You’ve got to give yourself enough time to enjoy it all!
Sun. Nov. 17- Have your family Christmas Photo taken. Begin making cards and gifts for your loved ones.
Fri. Nov. 22 – Sun. Nov. 24 – The men are getting their ‘bro’ on at deer camp. Get together with your best gals for a Christmas Crafternoon! Snacks, drinks, Pinterest crafts, lady time. Play a holiday chick flick in the background or your favorite festive female tunes.
Tues. Nov. 26 – Bundle up and head downtown with hot chocolate in hand for the Appleton Christmas Parade
Thurs. Nov. 28 – Be thankful for the Packers and your family as you stuff yourself with Thanksgiving turkey!
Friday Nov. 29 – Lace up your steel toe running shoes. Its Black Friday! Pay ridiculously low prices for the most expensive gifts on your list today!
Sat. Nov. 30 – Get a tree and load on those heirloom ornaments. Have a hankie ready, because Dad’s annual tree topping speech can be a real tear jerker! Follow that magical moment up by holding hands and singing O Christmas Tree together.
Sun. Dec. 1 – Its the first day of the advent calendar. One surprise a day from now till the big day! The countdown has officially begun!
Mon. Dec. 2- Mail your Christmas cards today, so your recipients can enjoy them all month before reetzcycling them.
Wed. Dec. 4- Go see A Christmas Carol at the PAC.
Fri. Dec. 6 – St Nick is in town, he’ll visit your place too. Hopefully, he’ll give the best early December gift ever- Holiday Media- movies, cds, and books to enjoy for the next 19 days. Tonight, head to Neenah for the downtown community Christmas event.
Sat. Dec. 7- Get in the kitchen and start baking cookies, pies, and every holiday treat you can imagine. You’ve got two and a half weeks of guilt free seasonal gorging ahead of you!
Sun. Dec. 8- Sundays are set aside for Christmas coziness. Don’t let the hustle bustle of the season steal you from your favorite spot on the couch and spiked nog!
Fri. Dec. 13- After dark, drive around admiring local light displays, or visit either Green Bay Botanical Gardens of the Oshkosh Celebration of Lights.
Sat. Dec 14- Host a holiday gathering (or get invited to one), Tune up the acoustic and gather the family for a sing-a-long. Only 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS left!
Sun. Dec. 15- Recover from your holiday partying. Remember, treat yourself to Christmas coziness.
Fri. Dec. 20 or Sat. Dec. 21 – If you haven’t already, and even if you have, throw a holiday party! This is your last weekend before the grand finale!
Sun. Dec. 22 – Make a gingerbread house. Allow it to adorn your table as a tempting centerpiece until Christmas day!
Mon. Dec. 23- Go grocery shopping. Buy all the food and drinks you’ll need to polish off the season. You don’t want to forget something and have to go out on Christmas Ever or the big day. Frantic crowds. Ugh.
Tues. Dec. 24th- Keep your eyes on the skies! Its Christmas Eve! Sure, go ahead. Exchange one gift before going to bed. One! Just one! Only one!
Wed. Dec. 25th – Follow your heart. Christmas is yours. Own it.
Fri. Dec. 27 – Sun. Dec. 29 – You can’t hold on to the past. It’s been great, but it’s time to dismantle. You’ll want a fresh start for the new year.
